After 7 very successful years at St Thomas the Active After-school Communities program concluded at the end of 2014.

For a long time the St Thomas community had been very fortunate to have this program free of charge to families.  This has enabled additional physical activity to compliment the Physical Education program.  It is gratifying to see the growth of so many children participating in sport for teams within the school as well as at various clubs within our local community.

St Thomas School was the South-Metro regional nominee for the AASC Supersite award in 2008, 2009 and 2013, wining the SA State Supersite award in 2009 and 2013, the only of Australia’s 8000 primary schools to win this award twice.

The AASC program has enabled:

-          Programs in over 20 sports including Swimming, Step Aerobics, AFL, Soccer, Hip Hop, Ten Pin Bowling, Karate, Touch, Netball, Cricket and Tennis to name a few.

-          Over 600 hour long after school sessions

-          25 000 hours of children engaged in physical activity

-          Children consuming over 15 000 pieces of fruit

-          Teacher professional development by working together in groups.

-          Teachers and students from all year levels to working together

-          Student Leadership via St Thomas’ ‘Future Coach’ initiative

-          All for conducted for free to the St Thomas students.

In Term Two, 2015 St Thomas will be a trial school for the AASC replacement program Sporting Schools.
